As the mother of four well-adjusted adults and grandmother to two littles, the advice I'd give to new parents is to read a freaking book. We read books to learn how to drive, in college to learn how to do a job, etc. So why is it we think we should just wing it as parents?
Just doing "your best" is what yielded generations and generations of traumatized adults.
So please, pick up a freaking book. Preferably one by John Gottman or the Gottman Institute. They basically have the market cornered on research.
And whatever you do, DO NOT follow the Love and Logic garbage. It's SOOO bad - even telling you to let your pets starve if the child won't do their job of feeding them.
