For most of us, it's a strong desire - I stop short calling it a need since we obviously can live without it. But yes, it is important to our growth. I had a similar situation growing up, though my mom didn't die. My dad was awarded custody when they split up and my mom moved 2 states away to be where she grew up. I saw her a few times a year until I moved in with her at 12 years old, but since I was 3 when they split, the damage was basically done.

Anyway, yes, I love physical affection even if I'm introverted and don't reach out to anyone but my children and my romantic partner (though I don't currently have one or any intention of finding another lol).

Thank you for sharing your experience. I hadn't even made the connection that maybe it was something lacking in my youth!
