He did appear to have empathy, but in many situations it felt fake. This man was very intelligent and seemed to adapt, even within our relationship. When I placed boundaries that I followed through on, he made meaningful and immediate changes. For example, I broke up with him when he wouldn't stop giving me the silent treatment, and he never did it again.
