I believe most parents unwittingly program this out of our children. Schools, as well, for sure, but in general things like making your kids hug and kiss relatives they don't want to teaches them to not listen to their own bodies. Telling them to finish eating what's on their plate regardless of whether they still feel hungry teaches them not to listen to their own bodies. In general not listening to children as they're trying to express a thought or emotion (because we don't deem it valuable or useful) is, in effect, programming our children to ignore their natural instincts! It's crazy when you think about it!
