I guess it's easy enough when the policies don't affect you personally. But anyone who has matured to 8th grade level empathy can put themselves in the shoes of another and can understand how they would feel given the same circumstances.

I know my mom pretty well, I believe, and I know that if she were in a war-torn country, she would in fact make a run with us for the safety of a neighboring country, the same way these families are.

So I know that fundamentally she can empathize. Yet, Fox news told her they were villains, and she can't seem to reach that place in herself any longer that can understand it's not us vs. them. They are us. We are all the same.
