I think your comment gets to the heart of my beliefs. We need to change the conversation about rape, and therefore, consent. In my opinion, if you do not have consent (an enthusiastic yes!) then you have committed rape (or some other crime that we do not have a name for yet).

Absolutely women rape men. And men rape other men. I'm not sure if there are any meaningful statistics on women raping other women, but if that's a problem, it needs to be addressed as well.

It's a power issue, not a sexual one. If a woman has coerced a man into having sex with her under false pretenses, and is seeking to entrap him by getting pregnant (or some other outcome - for example back in the day if a man and woman were caught having sex, they might be forced to wed), that should absolutely fall under the classification of rape or sexual assault, or some new classification altogether.

I believe men are victims of sexual assault or rape much more often than they admit to. Just because society says you "should" want it, and it's being pushed on you, does not mean you did want it or that it wasn't a traumatic experience.

I think the article I wrote about consent (especially the comic strips at the end) probably say it better than I can here.

The word rape may be too strong for the crime that has been committed, but I feel it necessary to use strong language to call out the issue. Saying "he took advantage of her" has done nothing to teach awareness. The fact is, someone laying their hands on your body without your consent is a violation and we need to stop brushing it off.

Thank you for your thoughtful comments. I'm mostly just trying to bring awareness to a topic I (obviously) feel passionate about :)
