If you're in your 40's then you know exactly what I'm talking about. The difference between us is that you are fighting for the institution of marriage, whereas I am not.

Every relationship I've been in has made my life worse in some way. And most of the women I associate with have had the same experience. Men have been taught to be takers. And the one man I had a relationship with who was a giver beyond measure was controlling - to the point where it became unlivable.

I have found that my single friends - and I - are far happier than my friends who are in relationships. And this is one of the main reasons. Living life on your own terms is freeing in an indescribable way. Many women never get to experience it because we're taught that taking care of a man is the ultimate ambition.

I'm sure my friend does things that bother her husband as well. But I'm trying to call attention to one specific issue that seems to permeate most relationships.
