I'm in my mid 40s now as well. My marriage situation did not end up as well as yours. And I've started to wonder why we do it anymore. It was originally a bill of sale of a woman from her father to her husband. Now? I see no reason to legally bind yourself to another human. Maybe I'm just cynical, but breaking up is hard enough, without having to get attorneys involved.
