I'm not a fan of flowers as gifts either. I prefer to get (or give) a plant that I can continue to care for. I have faux flowers around my house because I love the addition of the colors, but I don't support killing flowers just for the sake of it.

There is an argument to be made that their bloom is fleeting, regardless, but, like you, I find it an odd way to commemorate love.
