I'm sorry that was your experience growing up. It is always horrible to me that parents cause their children to live in terror. And it was far too common in the previous generations. I hope that with the advent and access to birth control that more people who clearly do not want to be parents will opt out of poisoning another generation of offspring. There is absolutely no excuse for treating a child the way you were treated. Your home is supposed to be your one safe space.
