In my experience, the man gets joint custody, but doesn't pull half the weight. Me and every woman I know made sure the kids had socks and snow clothes and doctor's appointments (which we then also paid for), and school supplies, and dance costumes, all while he paid minimal child support because he had 50/50 custody.

Most women lose their house because they can't buy out their husband's equity. Most women end up with almost none of his retirement account.

Most of us just want to get tf out and walk away from what is rightfully ours simply to get away from a man child.

I've never met a woman who faired well financially after divorce. Still 100% worth it, but the reality for us is a financial nightmare.
