It truly is just another form of abuse. I understand it if you live in a place where there is no food. If you're starving to death, of course you have to eat whatever is available, but even still, the child should still have the option to forgo eating if that is the only option.
I don't think anything good comes from forcing anyone to eat.
In fairness, I had a child who was very sick and we had to place a feeding tube directly into her abdomen to get the calories she needed into her (which she hated), but aside from life-saving measures, forcing people to eat food that they do not want is torture.
I was a very skinny child and having to finish my plate literally made me feel sick every single night. And as an adult I struggle with maintaining a healthy weight, so it was not a lesson I needed to be taught.
