It was the same for me. My daughters at the time were 18 and 20. My 20 year old was pregnant and my 18 year old was (and still is) living on disability. He had me convinced they needed to move out. So I left the care of my 20 year old to the father of her baby - who did not take care of her. And my 18 year old moved in with some roommates that she didn't know. It was a terrible idea on both counts.

I'm glad to say that I have rebuilt relationships with all four of my kids, but it definitely took some time. They all understood that my ex was the reason for the divide, so they were gracious in forgiving me once he was out of the picture, but I missed out on many opportunities to be there for them.
