It's always sad to me when the parent is unwilling to bend. I think I can say, with no hesitation, that when parents contribute something positive to their children's lives, they truly want to maintain the relationship. It's only when it has become nothing but an exercise in futility that children feel they have no choice but to go no contact.

I believe you would have been very forgiving of your father if he'd been open and vulnerable with you as well as willing to change. As humans we have an almost endless capacity to forgive when someone shows true remorse and growth.
