More young women report because after a few bad encounters, we start avoiding those situations altogether, meaning older women are likely not attacked at the same rate as younger women. I haven't researched this - that's just my initial impression based on my own experiences.
Men of every age know that young women are inexperienced and easy targets. Whereas a woman who has made it to 30+ is likely armed with pepper spray or some other self defense device as well as an assertive (or even aggressive) personality, after having those scary moments or bad experiences.
I stopped dating after my last relationship - but oddly enough not because of gender violence. For me it's more because most men haven't seemed to mature into a grown ass adult. They seem to be looking for a new mommy to be their unpaid domestic labor. It's far less work for me to take care of only myself, so that's what I've opted to do.
