Long After the Thrill

Most people aren't prepared not to work. When you've had your days filled with work your whole adult life, you must discover your purpose. In most cases, though, that does not include returning to work. It includes things like volunteering, having a family, creating art. Most retirees struggle to adjust for a time, but rarely return to a job.

I imagine an abrupt change to having "nothing to do" is jarring, but I'll bet my left leg you won't go back to your 9-5, so it comes across a little bit privileged, especially when a good chunk of your audience is likely struggling to make ends meet.

It is definitely good to hear the perspective, but with so many struggling in the current economy, it does feel a tad insensitive.

I'm guessing the recent breakup is a big part of the problem as well since you no longer have a playmate to enjoy all your free time.

In any case - great piece! Thank you for sharing!
