Parenting is the literal hardest job on the planet. We all do the best with what we have been given, so I hope you will grant yourself some grace.

I wanted to comment because I have four children. We did not have much money while they were growing up and as such, my children were never spoiled and three of four are not entitled.

Interestingly, I have a daughter with Cystic Fibrosis who grew up with a different set of rules. While the rest of the family was doing Saturday chores, she was doing breathing treatments and other medical care. I didn't feel like it was fair for her to have to do chores after her medical care, so I gave her a pass for the most part.

In addition, I was more inclined to give her immediate attention when she wanted it - mostly because I thought I needed to. She was sick, after all.

She didn't ride first class. She didn't get to indulge in fancy dinners, or designer clothes, or anything of the sort.

Yet she still has an attitude of entitlement. Luckily it got so bad when she turned 18 that I found her a roommate situation and helped her move out. She was not happy about the arrangement. But when she came back home to weather Covid (and is still at home - she's 25 now), she at least takes care of herself now. She pays rent, she takes care of her car and the other responsibilities she has.

The underlying entitlement is still present. At this point, I mostly ignore it since it's just lip service, but wanted to let you know that parenting is the most difficult task we'll ever undertake. There is no handbook, and until recently not a lot of guidance unless you had the money to get professional help.

So yeah, here we are.
