So many other countries think the way we raise babies is barbaric. We give a baby a warm cozy place to sleep for 9 months, then yank them out into the world and think they'll be fine alone. It truly is barbaric. My first two slept with me until they were school aged. The last two were shorter - mostly just until they were toddlers. But I let them help me decide when they were ready. And guess what? No child sleeps with its mother forever. My four well adjusted adult children are better for having been allowed to make the separation when they were ready.

Trust your instincts. If I've learned anything, it's that doctors are just guessing at what's best and constantly changing their minds. Don't ever let them make you second guess yourself!
