There's simply no reason for it. A healthy newborn should not be getting surgery within days of being born. There's an argument to be made that back when hygiene was a more difficult task to maintain, maybe it reduced infection risk enough to warrant widespread circumcision. But now? We have access to clean water and antibiotics (if needed).

Imagine being that one parent who loses a child because of this silly religious procedure.
