Well-stated and I agree. The term "pride of ownership" definitely came about through observation of home owners.

I've seen so many articles lately, and have even gotten into discussions with people, who claim that renting is the better way to go since your personal residence is "not an asset".

Oddly enough the people who keep telling me a home is not an asset also own their homes outright, so I've called out the blatant hypocrisy that is telling others to rent while you are living in a paid off home.

Sure it doesn't cash flow like a rental or stocks that pay dividends, but if one more person with substantial equity/no mortgage, tells me that access to equity is not an asset, I may very well lose my ever lovin' mind.
